Chelsea vs Arsenal
Will Arsenal extend their historical edge, or can Chelsea finally get their revenge?

For Arsenal, tonight’s EFL Cup tie is not a must-win fixture.
Since dismissing Maresca, Chelsea are now under Will Still. The Blues currently sit 8th in the Premier League — realistically out of the title race and even a top-four finish looks difficult. That makes the cup competitions their last realistic route to silverware. Chelsea haven’t won a trophy since 2021, and after losing three finals (FA Cup and EFL Cup) to Liverpool in recent years, the club’s hunger for a title is obvious. Reaching the EFL Cup semi-final again this season has reignited that ambition.

Chelsea come into this match in high spirits after a 5–1 win over Charlton. With Cucurella injured, Hato started on the left and impressed, even getting on the scoresheet. Will Still favors a 4-2-3-1 setup, and with Garnacho, Estêvão and Neto operating out wide, Chelsea have strong one-v-one threat on the flanks. They’re particularly effective in high-tempo transitions and counter-attacks.
This season alone, Chelsea have beaten Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham, and drawn with Manchester City — the underlying quality is still there. The players missing are mostly long-term absentees rather than fresh setbacks.
For Mikel Arteta, the priority is crystal clear: the Premier League title. The EFL Cup carries little weight for Arsenal, especially with FA Cup and European qualification routes still available. It’s simply not a competition they need to go all-in on.

Defensively, Arsenal have shown signs of regression, conceding in four of their last five matches. Trossard has enjoyed a breakout season, while Saka’s output has dipped slightly. At times, Arsenal struggle to break teams down in settled possession and rely heavily on set pieces — but Chelsea are one of the stronger sides in defending dead-ball situations. Historically, Arsenal have also found Stamford Bridge a difficult away venue.
From a market perspective, bookmakers never fully backed Arsenal at the opening line. While the price has moved slightly in their favor, this shift appears driven more by public money and market heat than genuine sharp support — which makes it hard to trust.
Prediction: 1–1
Both Teams to Score
