Aston Villa vs Everton<10>
Last night, none of the Premier League BIG 4 managed to win. Can Villa take advantage tonight and leapfrog Manchester City?
With both Arsenal and Manchester City dropping points yesterday, Aston Villa have a huge opportunity here. A win tonight would see Villa move three points clear of City into second place, and close the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just four points. At that stage, a genuine title challenge would no longer sound unrealistic. Everyone knew Villa were well-coached under Unai Emery, but few expected them to reach this level.
There is, however, one major concern. Both first-choice defensive midfielders, Onana and Kamara, are injured. Onana is ruled out for sure, while Kamara is highly doubtful according to local reports. This matters a lot, because the rest of Villa’s midfield options are more attack-minded and creative rather than defensively disciplined. That imbalance could have a real impact on the game flow.

As for Everton, they’ve spent the last five seasons hovering around the lower mid-table and were even close to relegation at one point. Since David Moyes returned, results have stabilized somewhat, but limited investment in the squad has capped their overall ceiling. Realistically, sitting 12th is already a decent outcome for Everton — especially considering there are at least three teams below them with significantly higher squad value. Injury-wise, they’re not in perfect shape either, with midfielder Harrison out and centre-back Branthwaite potentially missing.
In terms of overall quality, Villa have consistently punched above their weight in recent seasons, while Everton are merely holding onto a mid-table identity. The gap between the two sides is clear.
From a market perspective, European odds have shortened on the home win, while both the draw and away win prices have drifted, compressing the value on non-home outcomes. This suggests bookmakers are comfortable with Villa avoiding defeat. Asian markets are largely aligned around Villa -0.75. Historically, Villa tend to deliver at home against Everton within this handicap range.
What’s key here is that despite Villa’s strong home form and league position, the line is not aggressive. Even more telling, Villa have consistently covered handicaps above -0.5 in similar situations. Given that the market remains firm despite two key midfield absences, this represents strong underlying support.
Prediction: Aston Villa to Win
