<1>Girona vs Barcelona

<10>

Girona have hit a rough patch since the start of February. They’re winless in their last three La Liga outings — a 0-1 loss away to Real Oviedo, a 1-1 home draw with Getafe, followed by another 1-1 draw on the road at Sevilla. Their biggest issue remains poor attacking conversion; they’re creating situations but not finishing consistently.

After 23 rounds, Girona sit 15th in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone. The pressure is mounting, and this is very much a survival battle for them.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have been dominant in the league but suffered a major setback in cup competition. They cruised past Mallorca 3-0 at home in La Liga, maintaining strong title momentum, but were then hammered 0-4 away by Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinal. The defensive collapse and blunt attack that night dealt a blow to morale.

In league play, however, Barça are elite: 19 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses from 23 matches, sitting second on 58 points — just two behind Real Madrid with a game in hand. A win here would temporarily send them top of the table. Motivation will not be an issue.

Girona are dealing with a serious injury crisis, which is arguably their biggest weakness heading into this fixture.

Starting goalkeeper Carlos remains sidelined.

Forward Portu is out long-term.

Defender Moreno is nursing a muscle injury.

Midfielders Van de Beek and Aleix are also unavailable.

Squad depth is stretched thin. Offensively, Girona rely heavily on individual moments from Tsygankov and Vanat, with Ounahi orchestrating in midfield. Defensively, however, the back line lacks experience and stability — 37 goals conceded in 23 matches is far from convincing.

Barcelona have their own absentees — Pedri, Gavi, Christensen, and Rashford are sidelined — but the core spine of the team remains intact. De Jong, Fermín, Koundé, and Araújo are all fit, and squad depth remains strong enough to cope.

Going forward, Barça are the most potent attacking side in La Liga. Yamal has delivered 15 goals and 12 assists in 31 appearances, emerging as a true focal point. Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Lewandowski are all producing consistently.

Barcelona have scored 63 goals in 23 league matches — the best offensive output in Spain. Midfielder Fermín continues to develop rapidly, and defensively the structure is far more balanced compared to recent seasons.

Head coach Hansi Flick confirmed a major boost ahead of kickoff: Raphinha has returned to full training and is included in the matchday squad.

He has contributed 8 goals and 3 assists in 14 appearances this season and is a critical piece on both ends of the pitch. Notably, Barcelona lost five of their six defeats this season when Raphinha was absent. His return significantly strengthens their chances on the road.

European odds have shortened on the away win, and Asian handicap lines have opened at Barcelona’s strongest road spread against Girona in recent years. The market clearly signals strong institutional confidence in the visitors.I agree with the move.

Prediction: Barcelona to win (Away Win).
