Napoli vs Roma<10>
Defending champions Napoli host Roma in what is effectively a six-pointer, with just three points separating the two sides. The gap is minimal, and if Napoli were to lose here, the standings would be level.

Following their Coppa Italia elimination to Como on penalties last weekend, Napoli now face their second “Sun Derby” of the season. With only the league left to focus on, this becomes a pivotal fixture in their top-four push.
Napoli’s early European exit was not entirely surprising. Antonio Conte has historically struggled in continental competitions — or, more accurately, he prioritizes domestic objectives. Having already secured the Serie A title last season and lifted the Supercoppa in December, the expectation was a deep Coppa Italia run. Instead, they fell 7–6 on penalties to Como. Lukaku missed from the spot, and Lobotka saw the decisive penalty saved.
Now, their full attention turns to Serie A.
Back-to-back league wins have strengthened their grip on third place. While mathematically still in the title conversation, the Milan clubs remain the primary Scudetto contenders.

After defeating Fiorentina at home, Napoli edged Genoa 3–2 away in a chaotic encounter. They conceded first, rallied with two goals, then lost control. McTominay was forced off injured, Genoa equalized, and Juan Jesus was sent off. Ultimately, a controversial stoppage-time penalty converted by Højlund sealed the win.
Napoli are currently unbeaten in 22 Serie A home matches — their best run since the late 1980s. At home, they’ve been extremely difficult to break down.
McTominay is expected to return after resting midweek. His issue was tendon inflammation rather than structural damage — a major boost, given the midfield injury crisis.
De Bruyne, Anguissa, Gilmour, captain Di Lorenzo, and David Neres remain sidelined. Juan Jesus is suspended.
Lukaku is still working his way back to form after a long layoff and his recent penalty miss won’t help his confidence. Højlund, meanwhile, finally ended his league drought and has scored five braces in all competitions this season. He should continue to lead the line.
One emerging bright spot is 23-year-old academy product Antonio Vergara. With the midfield stretched thin, he has stepped up impressively — scoring in the Champions League against Chelsea and netting his first Serie A goal versus Fiorentina. He was named Napoli’s Player of the Month in January and has continued contributing in February, including winning the decisive penalty against Genoa. Confidence is clearly high.
Roma’s record against Napoli is poor: just one win in their last 12 Serie A meetings, and no away win at Napoli since 2017.
That said, Roma have collected 46 points after 24 rounds — their best tally at this stage in eight years. Defensively, they are the best unit in Serie A, conceding just 14 goals and yet to allow a penalty all season. Under Gasperini, discipline and structure are evident.
After a three-game winless spell, Roma responded with a controlled victory over Cagliari. January signing Malen scored twice and has likely secured the starting striker role, especially with Evan Ferguson and Dovbyk still injured.
However, Roma’s weakness lies in big-match scenarios. Against the current top five, they’ve collected just one point and scored only two goals. In contrast, Napoli have taken 10 points from six matches against top-tier opposition.
Dybala may partner Malen if fully fit, though Gasperini admitted he is not at 100%. Pellegrini could drop to the bench. Kone and El Shaarawy remain out. Hermoso may return, while winger Marvano is doubtful. Zaragoza, on loan from Bayern, has yet to fully integrate but could see minutes off the bench.
The Asian handicap opened at Napoli -0.25 — already lower than historical head-to-head lines — and has since dropped to level ball (0). That movement signals declining institutional confidence in a clear Napoli edge.
While Napoli hold home advantage and stronger recent big-game metrics, the market shift suggests caution — particularly toward the draw.
