Lazio vs Como<10>
Lazio’s performances this season have fallen well short of expectations. As a traditional Serie A powerhouse, Sarri’s return has not brought a genuine title push or even consistent European qualification form. The attack has been blunt and inconsistent, leaving Lazio with an underwhelming points total and league position. They currently sit six points off the European spots, which is far from easy to make up. Since the winter break, Lazio have gone 1 win, 3 draws and 1 loss in five league games, averaging just 0.8 goals scored and 1 conceded per match. Last round against Verona, they managed only two shots on target from 11 attempts and relied on an own goal to secure the win. Two of their last five matches ended without them scoring at all — a clear reflection of their season-long attacking issues. The only reason Lazio have managed to hold their position is a relatively solid defensive structure.

Como, by contrast, have been one of the biggest surprises in Serie A this season. After battling relegation last year, they now sit sixth, just five points off the Champions League places and only two points behind the Europa League spots. A first-ever European qualification is a very real possibility, making them arguably the league’s biggest dark horse. Under Cesc Fàbregas, Como have played attractive possession-based football with good balance between attack and defense, showing resilience well beyond expectations for a promoted side. However, their form since the winter break has been slightly uneven. A record of 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in the last five rounds looks solid on paper, but they’ve failed to win their last two matches. The recent home defeat to AC Milan exposed some defensive issues, and injuries to key players such as Morata, Diao, Adai and Goldaniga could weaken their transitions at both ends. That said, Como are a well-balanced team with no obvious home-or-away bias.
The two sides have met three times over the past two seasons, with Lazio recording 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss — no clear edge for either side. Lazio did win last time out, but their attacking problems remain unresolved. Even with Zaccagni returning to the lineup, his tally of just three goals in 17 matches is unlikely to transform Lazio’s attack. Como may be showing slight signs of regression, but their away resilience is impressive — even Napoli and Atalanta have failed to break them down. The market also hasn’t offered Lazio strong enough support in the odds, which speaks volumes.
All things considered, this matchup looks much more favorable for Como to get something out of the game.
Prediction: Draw or Away Win (X2)
