<1>Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace

Dark clouds are hanging over Tottenham right now. For interim manager Igor Tudor, who has started his tenure with two straight defeats, the mood around the club is as gloomy as the match poster itself.

After relegation rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham United both picked up points yesterday, the Premier League survival race has become extremely chaotic. From 14th-placed Crystal Palace down to 18th-placed West Ham, several teams are now locked in a desperate fight to avoid becoming the final club relegated this season.

Among these relegation-threatened teams, Tottenham — traditionally considered part of the Premier League “Big Six” — are in the most embarrassing position. If Spurs were to go down, it would be one of the most shocking relegations involving a major club since Manchester United were relegated in 1974.

Tottenham’s league form has been disastrous: 4 draws and 6 losses in their last 10 matches, winless during that stretch and currently on a four-game losing streak. Since taking charge, Tudor has also lost both of his matches in charge. The pressure is enormous.

West Ham’s win over Fulham yesterday means Spurs now sit just one point above the relegation zone, making this match absolutely critical.

The reason is simple: March is a brutal month for Tottenham. They face a two-legged Champions League knockout tie against Atlético Madrid, followed by league fixtures against top-four contenders Liverpool and direct relegation rivals Nottingham Forest. If Spurs fail to win this home match, they could realistically find themselves inside the relegation zone by the end of the month.

Tottenham’s biggest issue is their injury list.

Attack: Right wingers Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert are both out. Odobert is ruled out for the season, while Kudus won’t return until next month.

Midfield: Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are unavailable.

Defense: Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence are injured.

Suspension: First-choice centre-back Cristian Romero is suspended.

Crystal Palace also felt some pressure after Forest and West Ham avoided defeat yesterday. Palace currently sit seven points above the drop zone, with ten matches remaining. In the Premier League, that cushion can disappear quickly, so complacency is not an option.

Palace also have injury concerns, with four regular starters unavailable. However, their form is still stronger than Tottenham’s — 2 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses in their last five league matches. Their most recent defeat to Manchester United came after they took the lead but were forced to play a man down and eventually got overturned.

European odds have drifted on the home win, while the draw and away win prices have shortened. The Asian handicap remains Tottenham -0.25, with Spurs priced at high water and Palace at the lower side.

This suggests the market is gradually leaning toward Crystal Palace avoiding defeat.

However, given Tottenham’s extreme urgency in the relegation battle, backing against them carries considerable risk.

A better angle may be the goal line.

Tottenham have conceded over 2 goals per game recently, with most injuries concentrated in midfield and defense.

Crystal Palace have allowed around 1.5 goals per game lately, and they also have key defensive absences.

With bookmakers shading the total toward the over, the game profile points to goals.
